Welcome
to the program, where there are no cue cards, no teleprompters and no idiot-boards;
just plain ad-lib conversation in which we tell it like it is!
So began the most riveting 90 minutes ever to air on Detroit television.
The
Lou Gordon Program aired every Saturday and Sunday evening over the Kaiser
Broadcasting network from 1965 until Lous untimely death in 1977. Lou was
the voice of the little guy. When asked if he was the last angry man, Lou
replied, No, but Ive been given this position in life and I intend to use
it for those who cant speak for themselves, the voiceless, the people without
the clout, the powerless, and this is why Im here, to speak for those
folks.
The
guest list for the show reads like a Whos Who of the 1960s and 70s. From
politicians to pornographers, celebrities to crackpots and everyone in-between,
all have been grilled by Lou Gordon in his famous hot seat.
The
final Lou Gordon Program, which aired after Lous death on May 24, 1977, has
recently been found. The tapes, unseen for over 30 years, have been digitized
and transferred to DVD. This 90 minute, final show opens with Lou's "dear
wife Jackie" and is hosted by Lous friend Tom Snyder. The show features dozens of interviews and tributes from some of Lous fans and
friends. A partial list of clips from the program includes Charles Colson, Jack
Anderson, Jimmy Carter, Ralph Nader, Henry Ford II, Alex Haley, Jane Fonda,
George Wallace, Larry Flynt, Frank Rizzo, Nelson Rockefeller, Bob Hope, Joey "The Hit
Man" and F. Lee Bailey.
And of
course, the DVD also includes the famous interview
The
